Waterberg NP (Namibia) : natural art
S 20°30.831' E 017°14.714' (altitude: 1434 m)
Our next steop was to admire the art of nature in the form of petrified tree trunks. Under the immense pressure of ice for thousands of years and starved of oxygen, wood turns to stone. The trunks had first been moved here by nature as the narrow trunk rings suggest that they had matured where there was plentiful water and growth was quick.
Now oin excellent roads it is possible to have a tourist stop, do four hundred kilometres and stock up on food en route. The Waterberg National Park is set around a spectacularTafelberg rising up 200 metres from the 1400 m high plateau and has a few short walks on offer – just what the doctor ordered to balance the many hours of bent-leg motorcycle posture.
