Twyfelfontein (Namibia) : an open-air art gallery
S 20°32.889' E 014°23.977' (altitude: 556 m)
The name Twyfelfontein, or uncertain fountain, was given bywhite settlers who were in search of suitable farmland in the last century. The nomads who roamed these inhospitable lands five thousand years ago had no doubt about the importance of this place as here they left behind a vast collection of images engraved on the flat rocks. They show fauna and some circular designs believed to be associated with activities of the shamans. We were impressed by the extent of the well-preserved rock art.
