The most pleasant thing about Luanda for us was the south-bound coastal road: tarred and in good condition for almost 300 kilometres. This area does not receive much rainfall, vegetation is sparse and there are long stretches without any settlements. At the small town of Egito, set on a river, the landscape turn green, and more importantly for us, there is a brand new petrol station. Not because we were out of fuel, but because we were more than welcome to pitch our tent on the thick lawn and have use of the shower and toilets – for free! Why would you want to bush-camp?
