Yaounde (Cameroon) : playing the visa game

We were tempted to linger in Limbe but our visa agenda in Yaounde got us moving to the capital. We advanced quickly on the good road although we almost prefer a few potholes than the crazy drivers that come with the former. With 40 kilometres to go we got fist hand experience of what a really heavy downpour, complete with thunder that makes you jump is all about – of course you can’t expect to travel 330 kilometres through tropical rainforest on a bike and think you’ll make it in the dry. Again we checked in at the Presbytherian Mission where we met Dave from South Africa in a Land Rover who was also on his way south and resolving the visa puzzle. Unfortunately, he was in a rush to get home having now recovered from Malaria and retrieved his abandoned vehicle from a dead end in north-west Congo (see for details). As for the visas, Congo Braza was the quickest, Gabon the strangest (no visa form, no photos – but lots of money!) and Congo DRC the most expensive at CFA 70’000 (Euro 110.00) – each!! While we wait we watch the daily downpours, get some reading in and update the website.
