Bafata (GNB) : traces of a colonial past

We enjoyed once more the 'luxuries' and our new friends for a few days and then headed off to Bafata where only grand buildings of the era gone are still visible. Sadly the textile factory and the cashew nut factory by the river now stand derelict and we sensed the people’s hopelessness about the future. The cashew trees abound, however, and the people are very friendly with always a friendly gesture to spare. The road to our next border was good and our departure was only possible after many salutations, exchange of e-mail addresses and even a request by the army officer in charge for a photograph.
