Kaolack (SEN) : into the Sahel

N 14°08.020' W 016°04.691'
We decided to skip the popular Petite Cote south of Dakar in favour of spending time in the Casamanse and headed to Kaolack in the interior, the centre of large Peanut monocultures and salt production. As the vegetation became denser, including impressive baobab trees, so did the frequency of villages along the road increase sometimes being only a few km appart. Almost anywhere a stop gathers a small crowd; young Africans are intrigued by 'la nave' and Annabella entertains the children with their gleaming little faces with always a smile on offer. Although Kaolack has Africa's second largest market it has a sleepy atmosphere with only the mosquitoes being a bother after sunset.
