Since the Atlas Mountains in Morocco the sun has always been out and it's been hot, but never has the bike' temperature been above normal. Now it was and we were all the more content with our new acquired African water cooler. Mopti is a busy port and watching the loading and unloading of pirogues, the washing of clothes, motorbikes, 4x4s, cattle and seeing children cool off in the river made an interesting morning. As Mopti is also a tourist hub (in the cooler season…) for trips to Timbouctou and Dogon Country it has its fair share of touts and hassle, so we lost no time and headed for Bankas determined to trek to Dogon villages without a guide.
