Our reason for going to Rabat was getting the Mauretanian visa which it turned out we had to go to Casablanca for. A day trip to Casablanca and the visa in our money belts we lingered on in Rabat to avoid the renewed wet weather. With time on our hands we grant ourselves the luxury to be fair-weather bikers! We put the time to good use rearranging the packing scheme and getting up to date with diaries etc. I finally managed to get down to attaching the foot-pump to the bike in the luxury covered parking just 50 m from our sunny south-facing room complete balcony and enough room to spread out all our gear. We rather got to like Rabat as it's absolutely hassle-free and it was interesting to be in Morocco’s most cosmopolitan city. Rabat's setting with 100 m high cliffs and river mouth is quite special, so too the unfinished project of the world’s largest mosque and the tomb of Mohammed V which has a permanent guardian in an elegant robe reading the Koran in silence.
